Kelly Chu of Cirsea Craft Ice Cream travels to Italy to Compete in the 2017 Gelato World Tour
CHARLESTON, SC – After winning over the taste buds of judges at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City in April, Kelly Chu of Charleston’s Cirsea Craft Ice Cream will be traveling to Italy to compete in the Gelato World Tour Grand Finale on September 8, 2017. Chu will be competing with “Bacche de Marsala” Gelato, featuring a crunch of biscotti and a kiss of Colombo Marsala, Italy’s number one imported Marsala wine.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to compete,” says Chu on her upcoming World competition, “it feels like the Gelato Olympics. All I can do is my best and hope to have as much fun as I can, doing it!”
Chu will be competing against 35 finalists from 4 continents and 19 different countries. Chu will be competing with a Marsala based gelato with basil, honey and goat cheese, swirled with wild berries and cookies. Chu’s secret ingredient, Colombo Marsala is known for being the key ingredient in many Italian dishes, yet Chu’s award-winning Gelato shows the versatility of this Italian cooking wine and proves Marsala isn’t just for savory chicken dishes or heavy creamed pastas anymore.
